God Is Good

Woman praising God's goodnessFor the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations”(Psalm 100:5)

God could have created us as mindless robots, programmed to forever to do His bidding. He could have given us free will but made obeying Him hard and painful. Instead, God has chosen to win our love by kindness and goodness. How should that make us feel?

God’s goodness should make us feel happy. “Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing”(Psalm 100:1-2). The psalmist doesn’t picture worshiping God as drudgery or boring rite. It is alive with joy, vibrant with gladness, sprinkled with song that pours from grateful hearts. God doesn’t have to be good to us—His goodness should make us happy!

God’s goodness should make us feel special. “Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture”(Psalm 100:3). Almighty God took pains to fashion mere man in His image. He wove me together in my mother’s womb. We are His people—we exist to serve and know Him. “What is man, that You are mindful of him?”(Psalm 8:4). Of all creatures, we are blessed beyond words!

God’s goodness should make us feel grateful. “Enter into His courts with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations”(Psalm 100:4-5). Thanksgiving for God’s goodness is so natural that it scarcely needs comment. He gives us mercy—forgiving shortcomings and offenses that we could never atone for. He reveals truth—offering direction to weary sheep. Thank Him!

God is good! Do you feel happy? Special? Grateful?
